Dr. Steven Althoff

Dr. Steve Althoff joined Pediatrics Associates in 2001. He is originally from Illinois where he graduated from Jacksonville High School. Subsequently, he attended the University of Illinois, and after publishing his Undergraduate Honors Thesis in Biophysics, he joined the Medical Scholars Program at Illinois and completed both a Medical Degree and a Biochemistry PhD in 1996. His PhD thesis was published in several peer-reviewed journals.  Dr. Althoff next completed a Pediatric residency at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. While at Mayo he met his wife Dr. Mary Troy Ferguson who is a sixth generation Nevadan and a Reno native.  They moved their family to Reno in 2001. In addition to caring for a busy general pediatrics practice, he also served for many years as the Chair of Pediatrics at Renown, was the Interim Chair of the Renown Children’s Hospital, as well as the Chief of Staff at Renown Regional Medical Center.

Dr. Megan Dory

Dr. Dory was quickly drawn to pediatrics during medical school, and during her pediatrics rotation, she would often arrived early before rounds to hold the newborns in the nursery, and eagerly assisted providing care to other young patients. During one exam of a four-year-old boy, she was surprised to find a little green ball stuck inside his ear. When asked how this happened, the boy replied, “I put it there yesterday, it didn’t hurt at all!” His mother was shocked by the discovery, and she and Dr. Dory couldn’t help but smile and laugh at his enthusiasm. Dr. Dory fondly recalls this as the moment she knew she was meant to be a pediatrician. While other specialties were also intellectually interesting, no other could provide such rewarding experiences every day. And her young patients have never let her down – each day promises interesting discoveries, adorable insights, shared laughs, and the opportunity to help children and their families.

For Dr. Dory, being a pediatrician is about more than helping take care of a child – it’s about helping the whole family. She strives to build good relationships with her patient’s family and she values family-centered care which actively involves families in medical decision-making. She approaches patient care with a holistic philosophy that focuses on helping her patients to be physically, mentally and emotionally healthy. Her additional training in sports medicine, and her own experiences as a competitive swimmer from a young age through college, has made her a passionate advocate for the many health benefits of an active lifestyle.

Dr. Dory was raised in the Reno area, and after her residency and additional training in Oregon, she and her husband returned to Reno. Formerly a patient of Drs. Zucker and Clark in this practice, she aims to carry on the traditional of providing the best pediatric care possible to kids in the Reno community.

Dr. Tara Prokop

Becoming a pediatrician has been one of the great choices of my life.  I get to provide a long lasting medical home for families that is rooted in support, trust, and connection.  It is a privilege to have the opportunity to care for and experience your children and family as they grow. We will spend over 18 years together.   Our conversations will range from diapers to driving. With humor and balance we will work jointly to navigate through any medical or emotional needs that may arise (including all of the everyday ups and downs that parenthood sparks).

I have two kids of my own, a pile of ski passes, and a love for how I spend my time in and out of the office in our beautiful Sierras.

Dr. Stewart Tatem

Dr. Tatem  grew up in El Paso, Texas.  He attended The College of William and Mary and went to medical school at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston. He moved to Reno in 1996 after completing his pediatric internship and residency at the University of Massachusetts in Worcester, MA.  He is board certified in General Pediatrics.

Dr. Tatem has been a partner at Pediatric Associates since August of 2000. He enjoys all aspects of general pediatric care.  Seeing his patients grow and develop from birth to young adulthood, and participating in the education of his parents/families and watching them grow in their knowledge and comfort of their children’s care is one of the favorite parts of his job.

He and his wife, Julie, have been married for 30 years and have two grown children who live in the area.

When Dr. Tatem is not in the office, he enjoys traveling with his wife and family, photography (follow him on instagram or his website here), scuba diving, skiing, swimming, playing keyboards/piano in his church praise band, stand up paddle boarding, and is a member of the local Corvette club.  He has been on several overseas medical missions with his church to provide care in poorer, underserved countries. He also teaches classes occasionally at the UNR medical school and quite often has medical students rotating through his office. He has recently authored an ebook on parenting and childcare advice that you can sample here.

Dr. Susan Sorensen

Dr. Sorensen has been practicing pediatrics in Reno since 1998, and rejoined Pediatric Associates in 2018.

Dr. Sorensen grew up in Calgary, Canada where she attended the University of Calgary for both her undergraduate studies and medical school. She completed her pediatric training initially at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque, followed by the University of Maryland in Baltimore. She is board certified in General Pediatrics.

When not in the office, you can often find Dr. Sorensen in the mountains or the pool. She enjoys skiing, hiking and camping. Dr. Sorensen grew up in the pool and continues to swim and compete at the national level, both in the pool and lakes.

Dr. Scott Wallace

Dr. Wallace first “knew” he wanted to be a pediatrician when he was 5 years old, after watching what an outstanding physician and community leader his aunt was, and felt he wanted to be just like her. As he progressed through school and his training, this desire was quickly affirmed as children’s joy is quite infectious. Taking care of children helps him not take work and life too seriously. Whether it be a silly joke, or saying “tickle tickle” while performing an abdominal exam, or dressing up on Halloween, these simple things can make a child laugh or smile, make parents and children more comfortable, and make him smile.

Dr. Wallace truly enjoys taking care of families and their children. We live in the age of information, but it can be so difficult to know what good information is. Dr. Wallace thrives on being able to help families navigate this so they may know what the evidence says to help them and their children be as healthy as possible. From the newborn period through adolescence, each phase of life presents new questions, challenges, and adventures for patients and parents and he tries his best to work with families, whatever comes their way. He is a huge proponent of preventative care and well check visits as it is much easier to treat disease if it is caught early, or better yet prevented altogether. However, when questions or issues do come up, he does his best to help parents understand what is happening with their children, reassuring them when able, investigating when indicated, and referring when necessary.

In 6th grade, Dr. Wallace moved to Reno with his family when his parents retired from the military and quickly fell in love with the area. After graduating from Reno High School, he attended UNR and met his wife while studying as a pre-med student. He continued his studies at the University of Nevada School of Medicine, and was accepted to the University of Utah in Salt Lake City to complete his pediatric residency. After residency, Dr. Wallace and his wife knew they wanted to return home to Reno and establish their roots once again.

When Dr. Wallace is not at work, he is kept busy with his family. He has an amazing wife, two sons, and a daughter who love the outdoors and hiking. He also enjoys working on his golf game, and being an amateur photographer, movie and tv buff, and avid traveler. His faith is especially important to him and his family and is active in serving his church.

DR. LISA GREENFIELD

Doctor Lisa Greenfield

Dr. Greenfield grew up in northern Arizona in a town called Prescott (like biscuit). She moved down to Tucson to attend college and medical school at the University of Arizona. While in medical school she knew she wanted to take care of kids, but also loved the variety and pace of the emergency department. She trained in a dual program for Pediatrics and Emergency Medicine and is board certified in both specialties.

After completing residency, she wanted to move to a cooler climate with more access to the mountains. Reno fit the bill! She and her husband, two kids, and two dogs relocated to Reno in 2018 and could not be happier with their decision. Originally working in the emergency department at Renown, Dr. Greenfield has decided to switch gears yet again and is looking forward to being a part of your child’s journey as they grow.

Dr. Greenfield prefers to spend her free time outdoors. She loves hiking, baking, reading, and learning new things. She cannot wait to meet your kiddos and help them become who they are meant to be!

DR. ROBIN HOLLEN

Over my 35 years of serving breastfeeding families, I have led a lactation team in a new Birthing Center, participated with NEIS on a feeding team, provided breastfeeding education and consultations for the WIC program and the Health Department, provided lactation education at conferences, UNR nursing, medical and residency programs, published original research, and provided lactation consultations at the Newborn Care Center.  I was instrumental in initiating and chairing the Northern Nevada Breastfeeding Coalition. I earned the Fellow of the International Lactation Consultants Association, FILCA designation. There are only 47 Fellows of the 37,262  IBCLCs in the world. I was honored as a Northern Nevada Woman of Achievement. In addition to outpatient care, I worked in inpatient hospital lactation for 12 years. As my second career's season slowed, my third career was rising.  I started my private practice, Starfish Lactation, and then arranged it as the model for The Lactation Connection at Renown.  Now, as a Family Nurse Practitioner, I have more autonomy, which provides even fewer barriers to families to meet their breastfeeding goals.

My love for teaching extends to children where I have volunteered to tutor under-served elementary age students and taught K-12 Bible Study Fellowship classes for decades.  Serving on my church’s Fellowship Team now keeps me near food and fun.  Outside of work, I am faithful to yoga and the stationary bike, but more often, I can be found spending time with friends and family, with travel, tea, and cooking/baking, topping the list.  Like many who live in this beautiful part of the country, I love being outdoors, but mostly in my yard and walking and hiking, a lot of walking.
